Francisco Ferreira Arruda Junior - 15 tracks

Life goes full cycle. And it feels like it happens in chunks sometimes. Defined, yes. Yet blurry - like the chunks overlap, so you cannot really name chapters accurately. In my case, it seems like these chapters would have huge names, like “the time when I was a Canadian Carpenter for 10 years” or “the decade when I owned a recording studio in Brazil”. Oh. And yeah. The chunks apparently all happen 10 by 10 for some reason. Only the above is out of order. First chapter happens in Brazil, actually. And while I could talk about all the amazing music I recorded, artists I produced, and bands I performed with, it would not be fair to the new version of me as an artist. This is a fresh start, so it is only right that I jump to the part that we had to flee the ever-growing urban violence that still haunts our beloved country. Then again, skip the Canadian part also – while amazing as life experience, it is not as important for the music narrative (although the chunks are blurry, remember. And formative). The true chunk that matters for this little bio is the NOW. Now, in Sydney. Now, back to being a full-time creative. Now, music and art. But also, now - with all the "goodies" that come with a career change in times of a pandemic. The silver lining, you may ask? Inspiration. The result of multiple musical personalities and the pot of stirring anxieties and paranoia has unleashed Retro Futuristic, Lo-Fi Aesthetic, Dark Indietronica, as well as soundtracks for the real and imaginary. No need for boundaries. Does it have bass? Beats? Is it unexpected or a bit weird? Then we like it. I AM A DUO (aka Junior Arruda) is a Brazilian/Canadian producer now residing in Sydney, AUS. Collecting samples and life experiences along the way.

Broken Ballerina

The toy ballerina played her wonky music box as all the other toys danced in joy to pretty, lush, nostalgic little beats, only to be interrupted. "Shush! It's a human! Act toy-ish!" As he passed by, the mean bully kid roared and menaced the others: "leave it alone! it's just a broken ballerina...

Melancholic lo-fi hip-hop track that has some undertones of nostalgia and childish play, but is also somewhat sad and melancholic.

All Else Failing

Cinematic electronica with interesting sound-design and nostalgic feel. A soundtrack for videos that require a bit of elegance and finesse in electronica without sounding too alternative but not quite club-oriented.

Lo-Fi Boombap

Fun, instrumental trip-hop/boombap track that is nostalgic and cinematic. Perfect for that road trip flick or motivational videos.

Pretty hip-hop instrumental with some lo-fi influence. Perfect for lounge moments, road trip montages, and as background chill music.

Beauty in the Beast

Continuation to the track "Android's Cry", this shows the android in case discovering more "garbage" left by the former inhabitants. Cut to scenes of the android watching a Super 8 montage. Road trips of a young family. Beautiful, nostalgic, but the video keeps showing their faces concerned every ti...

Android's Cry (West End Nights)

Retro-futuristic take on a dystopian scene: androids by now have taken over a planet ravaged by their former inhabitants. Cut to scene 2: one of the androids who works for the garbage collection, one day finds a deserted place with something that reads "jukebox". Out of curiosity, they get it to pla...

Fun, sexy, dance tune. Great for feelgood moments, and to capture that road trip and pool lounge with drinks on a sunny afternoon.

Paranoia induced by social media – such as being “ghosted” for example (‘ghosting’ someone is not responding to their texts. Most times not in malice nor aware – life happens, people forget replies – but it can add another layer of loneliness to an already fragile state).

The continuation of "Dellusion" (the track before in the album), it gives a dreamy feel to what is to chase your dreams without the negativity of "caring" about social validation and others judgement. A moment of "freedom" and yes: daydreaming.

Trying to escape the imposter syndrome feel, but conditioned to think that chasing your dreams is also delusional, the track is meant to be a bit convoluted and different in rhythm and syncopation while giving out some feeling of "dreamy" that is about to begin (the next track after means the opposi...

State of Euphoria

The song is meant to give a euphoric and optimistic feeling although still having overtones of melancholy. Feelings of euphoria and the need of self-medicating to escape. To be one of the “oh, so happy!” people we see every day through Social Media overexposure. Numbness. Drugs, Alcohol, Sex. Re...

Apathy Inertia

Represents trying to overcome the urge to freeze due to anxiety and insecurity. Fear of failure and not fulfilling “social validation” leading to procrastination. The imposter Syndrome monster. The visuals for this were always inspired by dance. Silk monsters trying to pop out of their skin as t...

Foetal Position

The feeling of wanting to just “curl up” and hide, with hints of hope throughout and might fool into thinking things are calming down and soothing, but dissonant subliminal “suggestions” in form of ethereal melodies keep dragging it to the feel on inevitable need to just confront life as it ...

Status: Anxiety

“soundtrack for movies in my head” started as a personal trip inwards to subconsciously confront my own vicious weekly cycles during 2020 and the whole feeling of “end of the world” COVID brought with it. It is meant as an audio-visual album - a fictional short movie synced to music - with e...
