‘Epilogue’ is exactly what its title suggests. I wanted to bring a closure to this musical exploration with a free improvisation, over a hypnotic set of bowed basses. I thought that it would be nice to finish this album with the feeling that it comes back to where it started, that is with the nakedness of my basses alone. It is an application of the way I have been trying to harmonize using intervals not existing in western music. That gives the music something between an eastern and a European midieval character. I was trying to channel the energy I got from listening to bass legend Charlie Haden and how he would possibly approach an eastern type of musical scale. While mixing the album with Giannis Baxevanis in Athens, I thought of having the sound of the street and city fade in and take over the music. I was so lucky that Giannis had made such a recording and upon listening to it we agreed on using it. You can hear a greek-speaking voice saying “Do you know what the secret is?” We both found it to be very poetic and as by fate it was included in the final mix. As the music fades out and we are once again lost in the city sounds, with its cars, buses and its people, we are finally a part of the outside world again, hoping that ‘Hane’(Home in Farsi) will be there to remind us of a peculiar but interestingly creative period. I believe that each one has had their own ‘Hane’, their own safe little haven, their quiet place, their creative and imaginary little world, during those hidden times we all went through…
